On May 9th Aquctica will open it's latest water park ride - 'Ihu's Breakaway Falls'.

Brave the watery free-fall on the all-new drop slide, Ihu's Breakaway Falls™ - the tallest, steepest and only multi-drop tower of its kind in Orlando. Face your fear and each other. You never know who's going to breakaway first, all you know is it's going to be one wild ride.

The slide is named after Ihu, Aquatica, SeaWorld's Waterpark™ Orlando's colorful gecko, who searches for the biggest thrills, steepest hills and the coolest spills in the waterpark.

Fun Facts about the ride...
  • Ihu’s Breakaway Falls features the tallest, steepest, longest and only multi-drop tower slides of their kind in the southern United States.
  • At nearly 80 feet tall, Ihu’s Breakaway Falls has the tallest and steepest 360-degree spirals in the southern United States.
  • Those who dare to brave Ihu’s Breakaway Falls will experience an almost vertical drop for nearly 40 feet, the steepest in the southern United States.
  • Ihu’s Breakaway Falls is the longest water thrill slide of its kind featuring three “breakaway boxes” and four completely different slide paths. Once the floor disappears, riders will drop 20-24 feet per second.
  • Ihu’s Breakaway Falls is the only high-speed water thrill slide in the world that propels guests through four, 360-degree spirals.

Disney World Raise Park Prices..

As from the 23rd Feb Disney World have increased their standard single day ticket to $99 and an annual pass will increase by $21.

The move by Disney comes with the following statement:

'Our pricing reflects the high quality and breadth of experiences we offer and our ongoing commitment to investing in our parks. We offer a variety of ticket options that provide a great value, and find that most guests select multi-day tickets that offer additional savings'.

It has been mentioned that other theme parks in Orlando have decided to increase their prices but with the addition of top new attractions such as the expansion to Harry Potter at Universal and 'Falcons' Fury' at Busch Gardens, I would expect to see parks follow suit before the busy summer.

We'll let you know as and when we hear.

Mr Nutcase - Review...

When it comes to phone & tablet cases the market is flooded... We were fortunate to get our hands on some sample cases from 'Mr Nutcase' to test out and see what we thought.

I know this is slightly off topic from our normal posts but when I had the opportunity to customise my own personal case, I couldn't resist but to put my favourite MLB, and Florida's own, Tampa Bay Rays logo on it! :)

First up - this is all done online with FREE shipping worldwide so that can't be a bad thing!

The first step is to simply choose your device... this can be for almost every phone & tablet on the market including latest models like the new 'iPad Air'.  I decided to choose the iPad Mini 2.

Once you've selected your device you can then choose a layout of how you would like the images to look on your device.

The next part is choosing which images you would like to add to the case.  You can even choose a background colour for them to be displayed over.

I would recommend that the images are of fairly high resolution.  Like I said, I decided to go for the 'Tampa Bay Rays' logo which I just got from searching 'Google Images'..  this is the logo I found...

Checkout was simple and I have to say...  the turnaround on these is super quick!  I placed the order on the Sunday night and the case was with me by the Tuesday morning!  This is the finished product....

Tampa Bay Rays iPad Mini 2 cover

Overall, I have to say I'm impressed!  The quality of the case is very durable and feels like it is sturdy and not like it would break.  It kind of has the toughness of plastic but feels a little rubbery also.  The quality of the digital image came out very well.  We also ordered an iPhone case which had personal photos on.  This also came out really well - very high res.

The iPad case completely encases the back of the tablet with all the relevant cut outs for camera, speaker and volume buttons.  My one little issue, which maybe they will take on board, is that if you own an Apple smart cover with the magnetic side attachment, this has not been cut out of the case to accommodate.  The magnetic strip on the smart cover, however, is strong enough to work through the plastic and does still attach but would have been better if this was adapted into the case.

From the initial design process on the site to the checkout was all very easy and user friendly.   The pricing is competitive and I would have no hesitation in recommending 'Mr Nutcase' to family & friends.

Bok Tower 85th Anniversary - Free Admission...

To celebrate the 85h anniversary of 'Bok Tower', there will be free admission on the 1st Feb

Join us in celebrating our 85th anniversary with up-close-and-personal experiences at the Gardens. We will be open free of charge on Saturday, February 1 in honor of our Dedication Day ceremony and events.

Bok Tower Gardens commemorates its 85th anniversary with free admission and a special Dedication Day ceremony on Saturday, February 1 with former U.S. Senator Bob Graham. Your Story Is Our Story is the theme of the day’s event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The National Historic Landmark was dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge on February 1, 1929 as a gift to the American people from Pulitzer Prize-winning author, humanitarian and world peace advocate Edward Bok.  Bok’s grandmother told him to “make you the world a bit better or more beautiful because you have lived in it,” which he did throughout his lifetime – and it still guides the Gardens’ mission today.
Japanese drummers will perform at 10:15 a.m. to invite all present to the Singing Tower for a ceremony featuring the presentation of the colors by the Lake Wales High School JROTC, followed by the singing of “America the Beautiful” by Amelia Updike, community volunteer and friend of Bok Tower Gardens.

Father Tom Seitz, Jr. from the Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales will give the invocation, and the City of Lake Wales will present a proclamation declaring the first week of February as “Bok Tower Gardens Week.”

Former U.S. Senator Bob Graham will speak about the rich history and passion of Edward Bok and the historical importance of Bok Tower Gardens to the State of Florida. This will be followed by a major announcement affecting the future of the Gardens.

Dundee Ridge Middle School “Select Choir,” directed by Cathy Montero, will perform together with Geert D’hollander on the Singing Tower carillon. Complimentary refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony.

Other February 1 Activities:

  • Free Pinewood Estate tours from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.
  • Free greenhouse tours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Free conservation tours at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m.
  • Distribution of 2,500 longleaf pine seedlings for visitors to plant at home
  • “A Look Back” exhibit in the Visitor Center featuring lesser-known facts, stories and photographs from throughout the Gardens’ 85-year history
